A little over a year ago my sister and I were asked by my mother-in-law if we could put together a Lord of The Rings themed birthday party. My sister-in-law was turning twelve and was a fan of the movies. My sister and I were like "Sure!" I mean two awesome things like decorating and Lord of the Rings...it doesn't get better than that.
So we immediately went to Pinterest and the web for ideas. Really there wasn't a lot out there. We found a few things but a lot was left to our imagination. We couldn't go full blown. No Mt. Doom or replicas of Helms Deep. I wanted to make it look like Bilbo's party but, we couldn't put the shire into my in-laws living room. So instead we brought in small elements from different parts of the movie. I hate that I did not take pictures on my good camera and all I had was my old phone. So I apologize for the low quality pictures. I hope our decorations will spark more ideas for future LotR parties.
Probably my favorite decoration. My sister put together this amazing Rohan flag out of poster board.
On the buffet we used Sam's frying pan to hold the bread and used wooden bowls and utensils to hold the rest of the food. We added small logs behind it to give a feel for the woods.
For our centerpiece we used old books, scrolls with burnt edges, a candlestick, a map with burnt edges, a feather quill and inkwell. We wanted it to resemble the items in Bilbo's house.
Ok ignore my poor pitiful tree made out of butcher paper. It was a last minute addition haha. I made a banner with the birthday girls name that looks like Bilbo's banner at his party.
Lastly we strung twine across the room and used it to hang greenery and twinkle lights. Oh and there is my attempt at a Rohan flag... Also made out of poster board...My sister's was so much better.
My sister and I had so much fun planning this. I would love to do somthing like this again one day.

ReplyDeleteYour party looks great, thanks for all the ideas. The tree was a very nice touch, last minute or not.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! Glad we could help. Are you planning a LotR party? Thank you for appreciating my poor little tree. I knew someone would like it. :)
